The meaning of our name · सूत्र का अर्थ

SUTRA: the sacred thread that joins two families

सूत्र is the thread of मंगलसूत्र, and a guiding principle. Letter by letter:

Englishहिन्दी
SSacred: marriage is a sacred bondसंस्कार: विवाह एक पवित्र संस्कार
UUnion: of two people and two familiesमिलन: दो व्यक्तियों और दो परिवारों का
TTrust: verified, honest profilesविश्वास: सत्यापित, ईमानदार प्रोफ़ाइल
RRespect: your privacy and your choicesसम्मान: आपकी गोपनीयता और पसंद का
AAlliance: a match built to lastसंबंध: जीवन भर का रिश्ता

What is different

Your details stay yours until you hand them over

On most matrimonial sites a profile is a document: once it is up, every paying member reads all of it. Here a profile opens gradually, and the switches are on your side.

Six switches, set for each match separately. Shown here as they appear on your own matches page.

Masked until you open it

A match sees your answers, the score against theirs and what you have written — not your photographs, your number or your handles. Those stay masked until you turn each one on for that person, and turning one off closes it again.

You are told who opened your profile

Every opening is recorded and shown to you: who, and when. A membership includes a counted number of openings, so nobody is working through the register.

Nothing is public

No profile is listed, linkable or indexed. There is no page of yours for a colleague to stumble on, and no address that works for somebody who is not your match.

Closing the account closes it

Profile, photographs, matches, messages, visit history and login, all removed. Invoices stay, because GST law requires 72 months of them — and we say so rather than implying otherwise.

Photographs

A face that belongs to a real person

An image generator will produce a more striking photograph than anybody's camera, and a retouching tool will take ten years off a real one. Both destroy the only thing a photograph is for, so SutraSocial refuses them when they are uploaded and tells the member why.

Declared machine generation is refused

Images carry provenance now: a content credential, a generator's own signature, the settings a diffusion model writes into the file. Where a file says it was generated, the upload stops.

So is a heavy editing trail

A file that records having been through a retouching suite is held back rather than quietly published. Cropping and straightening are fine; a rebuilt face is not.

The member is told what to do instead

Not "upload failed". A dialog naming what was found in the file, and the one thing that always works: a photograph taken on your own phone and sent to yourself without a filter.

Five photographs, not fifty

Enough for a family to see somebody properly, few enough that each is chosen. All five hidden by default, released per match like everything else.

What this honestly cannot do. These checks read what a file declares about itself. A generated image stripped of its metadata will pass them, and no software today can look at pixels alone and be certain. So this raises the cost of a fake photograph considerably — it does not make one impossible, and we would rather say so than let you assume otherwise.

The matching

The questions that actually decide a marriage

Height, income and a caste line do not predict whether two families can sit in one room. These do, so they are asked plainly — and every one of them is a list to choose from, never a box to write a paragraph in.

Gotra and mool are a bar, not a score

A pair sharing either is never proposed, however well they match on everything else. This is the first thing a family checks and the last thing software usually handles.

The language spoken at home

Not your mother tongue on paper — the three languages you are actually comfortable in across a dinner table. Asked of both sides, and it counts towards the score.

Joint family, answered the way people answer it

Nobody's real answer to living with parents is yes or no. The choices run from yes, through "for a while", through "I would decide after some months of living together", to no — and a pair is scored on how near their two answers are.

A child from an earlier marriage, asked honestly

Son or daughter, approximate age, who the child lives with. Never a name, never a date of birth — a child did not sign up for a matrimonial service. The other side is asked separately whether they are ready, and where the answers disagree the match is not made.

A profile that contradicts itself is not matched

Say money matters little and then require a house, a car and a high income, and the service asks you to resolve it before it will propose anybody. Matching on a contradiction wastes two families' time, not one's.

Both directions, and you can see the working

A match is scored from each side and shown as a breakdown, not one mysterious percentage. You see which spectrums agreed and which did not.

On the day you join

Matches the moment your profile is complete

Not when an office next runs a batch. Finishing your profile at midnight produces your matches at midnight, because an empty page is how a service loses somebody who has just trusted it with everything.

A full page, honestly ranked

The floor sits where it does for a measured reason: a pair built to disagree on religion, caste, language, diet, income, education and values still scores about a third, so anything below that is noise dressed as a match.

And you may be stricter than we are

One setting raises your own minimum as high as you like. It changes what you see and nothing else — it does not remove you from somebody who was glad to see you.

How it works

Four steps, and a price you can read

  1. Your languageChosen before anything else. The whole service follows it.
  2. RegisterIdentity confirmed by an OTP to your Aadhaar-linked mobile. We receive your name and date of birth; the number itself is never stored.
  3. Your profileFamily, background, lineage, the questions above, and what you are actually looking for.
  4. Your matchesComputed at once. A membership lets you open them; the switches stay yours.

Questions

The ones that deserve a straight answer

Can anyone search for me and find my profile?

No. There is no search box and no directory. Profiles are never listed, never browsed and never indexed by a search engine. The only way your profile reaches somebody is as a proposed match, and even then they see it masked until you decide otherwise.

Who can see my photographs?

Only a member you have opened them to, for that one match. Photographs start hidden from everybody. You turn them on for a particular person, and you can turn them off again — the switch works in both directions.

What happens if I decline a match?

It closes, and whatever you had released closes with it. Declining costs you nothing and is not held against your profile or your score.

Do you store my Aadhaar number?

No. The verification sends an OTP to the mobile linked to your Aadhaar and returns your name and date of birth. That is all we keep. The number itself is never written to our records.

What exactly is deleted when I close my account?

Your profile, your photographs, your matches, your messages, every record of whose profile you opened, and your login. Two things survive, because the law requires it: invoices and payment records, which the GST Act obliges us to retain for 72 months. The account they belonged to is gone, and nobody can sign in as you again.

Why does the service ask for gotra and mool?

Because a pair that shares either is never proposed, at any score. Families check this before anything else, and a service that leaves it to be discovered at the third meeting is wasting everybody’s time. Fill it in once and the question never arises again.

I was married before and I have a child. Is that going to be a problem here?

It is a question asked plainly on both sides, which is the opposite of a problem. You say son or daughter, roughly what age, and who the child lives with — never a name, never a date of birth. The other side is asked, separately, whether they are ready to accept a partner who has a child. Where the two answers do not agree the match is not proposed, so nobody has that conversation at the end of a long evening.

Is there a free trial?

Registering, building your profile and seeing your matches cost nothing, and they are not a teaser — the scores and the reasons are the real ones. Payment is what opens a match and starts a conversation.

Two hearts, one honest thread.

SutraSocial would rather hold a smaller register of real people than a large one of photographs.
